Barons Gate

The project at Barons Gate reimagines the ground floor of a mid-terrace Edwardian home, transforming the kitchen, dining and living areas into a cohesive and adaptable living space. Developed in close collaboration with the homeowners, the design expands the existing kitchen to create an open-plan arrangement that enhances views through the home and strengthens the relationship with the rear garden.

Large doors and an enlarged rear window open the space to the outdoors, improving both visual connection and day-to-day use. Two rooflights draw additional daylight deep into the plan, ensuring the extension is naturally lit and welcoming.

Externally, the extension is expressed through a contemporary palette of grey brickwork, paired with grey metal-framed openings and fibre-cement elements. These materials provide a refined contrast to the existing house while referencing the tones and craftsmanship of the recently built garden studio. Carefully calibrated proportions ensure the extension sits sensitively within its terrace, reducing visual impact and maintaining neighbourly amenity. Overall, the project modernises the home with clarity and precision, delivering a calm, functional and elegantly detailed addition that elevates everyday living.

The interior is defined by a soft, warm, and light palette, featuring timber parquet flooring and a timber breakfast bar that wraps around the kitchen units. This creates a sociable kitchen space that seamlessly connects to the dining and living area.

At Beyond Design, our approach is rooted in a deep understanding of place and people. Every detail is carefully considered to respond to both the existing context and the aspirations of the homeowners, ensuring the extension enhances daily life while respecting its surroundings. This project reflects our commitment to creating spaces that are both thoughtful and enduring—places that elevate everyday living and contribute positively to their community.
